But for hardcore fans, there are plenty of opportunities to catch members of Dexter’s gang in other roles until Showtime brings the charismatic serial killer and his buddies back for another season.
Not everyone, though, agrees. Mary McNamara, a television critic for the LosAngeles Times, listed Dexter — and its third season, specifically — as one of the few bright spots of the recent television season. You can read her column here.
According to Radar, the Dexter finale scored more than 1.5 million viewers. That is the biggest ratings that Showtime has ever generated for any of its programming.
I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’ve found Dexter’s third season to be the weakest in the show’s history. Yesterday’s season finale did nothing to change that opinion.
The bad news is that another season of Dexter is coming to an end, with the last episode of Season 3 airing this Sunday. The good news is that the show, despite what has probably been its weakest season, is still on sound ground as far as ratings and popularity go. Showtime has already committed to a fourth season.-
Dexter has been nominated in the Best Television Show — Drama category. To this I ask, “What took so long?” Dexter should have been nominated for its excellent first season, too.
Now, if only Entourage wasn’t so completely hopeless these days. Or Weeds. Or Heroes. But you can’t have everything, right? I’ll just have to be satisfied with Dexter and Lost. Not a bad combination.

Now, I’ve been less than enamored with this show since about the mid-point of season 2. I got tired of every character getting sucker punched whenever he or she tried to do something heroic or noble. I got tired of having new characters dropped on the island and then killed off without having contributed much of anything.
It’s a sad moment when you realize that even an imperfect season of one of your favorite shows is coming to an end. That’s what all Dexter fans face now.
Jeff Lindsay, author of the books that Showtime’s Dexter is based on, will make a cameo appearance on the Nov. 30 airing of the show.
